The sound
I made a note of it and moved on. The second thing I noticed on day three was a sound at night. I was reading around ten in the evening when I first heard it.

A low, rhythmic knocking from somewhere in the building. Not loud. Just steady, every few seconds, like something loose being bumped by wind.
