The anger fades

Something shifted then in the old man’s weathered, deeply hardened expression. He looked down at Albert’s hiking boots, his backpack, his water bottle, and his fear. Slowly the anger drained from his face, replaced by something almost like shame. “You really are just a lost hiker,” he said quietly. “Aren’t you?”
