A shocking contrast
The contrast was shocking. We compared the old photographs with new pictures taken from the summit and surrounding slopes. The difference was impossible to ignore. What had once been vibrant and green now looked scarred and hollow. Entire sections of the landscape seemed stripped bare and abandoned.
