As Lena cried, I watched Margaret carefully. Something changed in her expression. The anger remained, but uncertainty appeared beside it. Her eyes softened slightly as she studied Lena’s tear-streaked face. For the first time since waking up tied to the chair, I thought she might actually be starting to believe us.
