Finally, Owen heard footsteps approaching through the forest behind him. Three officers in plain clothes emerged from the trees. They had parked their vehicles a safe distance away to avoid detection. “Are you the one who called?” one of them whispered. Owen nodded and gestured for them to crouch down beside him in the bushes.
