The Harlow River runs through the flatlands outside Millfield, Tennessee. It floods some years and runs low in others, as rivers do. It keeps things and it hides things.

And on one long dry summer it gave something back that it had been holding for a hundred and sixty years, long enough that the people who hid it were gone.
