Notebook
Half-buried under old silt and debris, I found a notebook. It had a black cover and was badly damaged by moisture and time.

I picked it up carefully and brought it back to my building to examine it in better light. “Probably from a previous visitor,” I told myself. I was both right and wrong about that.
