“Hey Mr. Bill!” a student beamed, jogging up beside him. “You coming to the basketball game tonight? You promised you’d be there!” Bill forced a smile, one that didn’t reach his eyes. “Can’t today, champ. Got a dentist appointment,” he lied. The kid frowned a little—but Bill was already walking away.
